Sloping Tube Coal Separator – KNS Innovative solutions in coal preparation 2009
Sloping Tube Coal Separator – KNS Principles of Operation General Equipment Layout: 1 — casing; 2 — rejects deck; 3 — concentrate deck; 4 — deck’s positioning mechanism; 5 — feed chute; 6 — feed cone; 7 — de-watering elevator Square shape tube casing hydraulically connected to the elevator Main portion of process water is added at the bottom section while overflow from the top of separator casing Rising velocity of the slurry is variable along the separator and controlled by appropriate positioning of the decks High turbulence zone is created in the feed zone to create water/solids separation media, similar to the jig operating principles Slurry velocity is in-tune to allow some particles with higher SG slide down against the rising stream toward the elevator, while lighter particles are evacuated from the separator following up overflow stream Sloping angle is a key design parameter, individual for the type of coal and sizing distribution Water Rejects Water ROM Coal Concentrate
Sloping Tube Coal Separator – KNS History and Statistics Technology was developed by Russian Institution of Solid Fuel and patented Copyrights are handled by Scientific, Implementation and Design Enterprise “KENES”, Moscow, Russian Federation First industrial installation in 1983 in Kemerovo region of Russia By separators were installed and commissioned in Kemerovo region with combined production of 3Mtpa Average feed % of ash Average product quality % of ash Designed life cycle 10 years Achieved life cycle 20 – 25 years Top particles lump size – 150 mm Minimum particles size – 0.2 mm Efficient for all types of coal Can be combined in 2 stages to produce 3 products Can be used as a mobile plant Can be installed underground Effective for processing soaking types of hosting rocks and clays General view of the plant
Sloping Tube Coal Separator – KNS Advantages & Most Common Applications Extraction of coal from the high ash sources: Overburden Re-processing of previously stored waste stockpile Low grade mining blocks Thin seams Zones, contained geological faults Mine development and construction Tailing dams Advantages: Low TIC Low OpEx Low plant footprint Opportunities for u/g and mobile installation Ability to process soaking materials Opportunities for local manufacturing Broadly available spares and ancillaries More then 25 years of operating experience
