Mrs. O’Hara’s 6th Grade Language Arts Class
Course Description Reading (literature and informational text) Writing The sixth grade English/Language Arts curriculum will follow the Common Core State Standards for Literacy. These standards are based on four areas of study: Reading (literature and informational text) Writing Speaking and Listening Language To be ready for college, workforce training, and life in a global society, students need the ability to gather, comprehend, evaluate, synthesize, and report on information and ideas, to conduct original research in order to answer questions or solve problems, and to analyze and create a high volume and extensive range of print and non-print texts in media forms old and new.
Formal Grades – 65% Informal Grades – 35% Grading Policy Tests Projects/Long Term Assignments Final Draft Writing/Essays Formal Quizzes Informal Grades – 35% Homework Informal Quizzes Classwork Participation
Late Work Policy Homework will be written by each student in their agenda daily. Parents are expected to check the agenda and wiki each day and make sure work is completed.
All late work must be turned in but will result in a loss of points All late work must be turned in but will result in a loss of points. Homework is expected to be complete when class begins. Late homework, projects, and final draft writing will be penalized 10 points per day late.
Tutoring Times Extra help will be available on Thursdays from 11:40 – 12:30. Tutoring can be initiated by either the teacher or student.
