Our classes are considered a “block” class. This means you have me for two consecutive periods. You will not be allowed to go into the hallway when the bell rings in-between periods. You will exit at the end of your second class when I dismiss you.

Where do I sit? On the first day of class, you will be assigned a seat. Stay there unless told otherwise.

How should I enter the classroom? Every day we will be begin class by copying the Word of the Day (WOD). Your work will be on the board or projector. As soon as you enter the classroom, sit down and begin your work. I should not have to tell you to begin your work.

When do I clean up? A few minutes before the bell rings, I will instruct you to clean the area around your desk. Class will not be dismissed until all trash has been picked up and placed in the waste basket.

When do I pack my stuff? I will tell you when you may pack up your belongings and when you may leave the classroom. Do not pack your stuff up until I give the o.k. You will not line up at the door.

What do I do if I am late? Enter the classroom quietly. If you have a note, place it on my desk. Begin working. If you are really late, quietly ask a friend what’s going on. Upon your fourth unexcused tardy, you will be written up on an office referral.

What if I need to leave the classroom? You may use one of the passes you received in your homeroom class to leave the room. You may not leave the classroom without this pass. If you are hurt or sick, I will give you a nurse’s pass to leave the room.

How do I turn in my assignments? Everyone in 8 th grade will be heading their paper the same way. Use this format to head your paper. (Follow the example on the wall.) When instructed, pass your papers over. Do not stand up to pass your papers in unless otherwise instructed.

Make Up Work If you were absent, you have three days to get your work turned in without being penalized.

What do I need to bring to class every day? Your textbook and/or novel we are reading Your binder with plenty of loose-leaf paper Mechanical pencils or blue or black ink pens Four different colored highlighters Always bring the outside reading you are working on.

What if I come to class unprepared? You could use one of your passes to get your stuff. Ask someone if you can borrow from them. You may purchase a pencil from me for.50. I will have extra loose-leaf paper available. If you would like, you can donate to the loose-leaf paper drawer at any time!

When may I throw my trash away? When Mrs. Calloway instructs you towards the end of class. When we are working and no one is talking to the class.

What if I need a tissue? Quietly get a tissue. If you need to blow your nose, step outside the room and take care of your business. Be sure to dispose of your used tissues immediately! If you don’t have time to get a tissue, please sneeze or cough into your arm.

Food, Gum and Candy Policy Sorry, but no food, gum, or candy in classroom. No drinks either. If you are caught with gum, you will be written up.

Where can I find assignments? I will post homework and upcoming assignments on the board. I will also post assignments on my webpage. Look on the Calendar link on my webpage. Spanish Fort Middle: TeachersSpanish Fort Middle: Teachers

When is it NOT okay to talk? If Mrs. Calloway is talking to the class as a whole, do not talk to others in the classroom. If Mrs. Calloway is talking to a visitor, do not talk. If another student is sharing their answer or opinion, do not talk. Do not talk during a test.

How should I talk if given permission? Sometimes, you will be asked to talk in pairs. You should use your “two inch” voice. This means that only your partner should hear you. Sometimes, you will be asked to talk in groups. Talk so that others cannot hear what you are saying. If someone hears your idea, they can feel free to use it. Be considerate of others when given the opportunity to talk in class.

How do I ask permission to talk? Raise your hand.

How do I behave for a Substitute? Give the substitute the same honor and respect you would give to any teacher or principal. Remember, they are guests in our school. Represent SFMS well when they are here. Stay in your assigned seats. The sub will have the seating chart anyway. Help him or her when ever possible.
