The Tower of London On the right bank of the Thames you can see the Tower of London. The Tower of London was founded by the Roman Emperor Claudius,but 900 years ago William the Conqueror rebuilt it.

First it was a fortress then a residence for English Kings and queens. Later for hundreds of years the Tower was used as a prison for state prisoners. Three queens were beheaded at the Tower, two princes were murdered. Now it is a museum where they keep treasures and weapon. Yeomen warders are called «Beefeaters». They guard the Tower.

The Tower of London One of the old English legends says “If the ravens leave the Tower of London, the Crown and England will fall.” But the birds have never left the Tower. Since the 17th century 6 ravens have been under Royal protection. Each raven has got it’s name and the keepers carefully look after them.

The Tower of London If one of the birds dies, another younger raven takes its place.
