What is Homeopathy? 600 W. Emma St. Lafayette, CO

What is Homeopathy? Homeopathy is a system of medicine that is based on the Law of Similars. The truth of this law has been verified experimentally and clinically for the last 200 years

Law of Nature  Based off a physics law of nature  Positively charged particles repel positively charged particles  Like charges repel

Homeopathy Explained It is this principle that provides explanation to how and why homeopathy is effective

Step One: Proving  Child accidentally ingests a poison  Treatment could have been Syrup of Ipecac Induces vomiting  Plant Ipecacuanha The plant by the road which makes you throw up

Step One: Proving  Healthy volunteers took Ipecacuanha  Found other symptoms besides vomiting Mouth retained saliva Tongue was clean Cough so severe that caused vomiting Incessant nausea Does not feel better after vomiting

Step One: Proving  Called a proving  Source of information about the action of each homeopathic medicine  Proving symptoms are required before a homeopathic medicine can be given  The first step in applying the law of similars

Step Two: Symptoms of the Sick  Person suffering from a gagging cough after a cold  Pregnant woman experiencing morning sickness that is not relieved by vomiting  These symptoms are as if they took the plant Ipecacuanha  Second bit of information needed when applying the Law of Similars

Homeopathy Explained The effect of applying the Law of Similars in medicine is to stimulate the body to react; no two similar substances can exist in the same place. When the correct homeopathic medicine is given the body will act to correct the diseased state

Homeopathy has been used successfully for the last 200 years  Law of nature as been written about for centuries  Late 1700’s that the Law of Similars was systematically applied in medicine  Samuel Hahnemann  “Homeo” – Similar  “Pathy” - Disease

How does homeopathy differ from conventional medicine?

Homeopathy attempts to stimulate the body to recover itself. Let's look at an example: the common cough

Homeopathy vs. Conventional  All Symptoms represent the body’s attempt to restore itself to health. When something is “wrong” it is the body’s attempt to restore health.  Conventional Medicine – stop the cough with suppressants  Homeopathy – give a homeopathic medicine that will cause a cough in a healthy person

Homeopathy vs. Conventional  Each cough is slightly different  Conventional Medicine – treats all coughs the same  Homeopathy - look that the totality of the symptoms

Two Different Coughs  Cough 1: Worse when breathing cold air, and sounding like a deep bark  Cough 2: loose cough in the morning, dry in the evening and better when sitting up in bed  These are different illnesses and require different homeopathic medicines

A healthy person is a person who is free on all levels: physical, emotional, and mental.  Conventional medicine each system of the body is different Declared “healthy” because physical exam is normal  Homeopathy Each system of the body provides clue towards the entire disease state

What are Homeopathic Medicines?

Regulation Homeopathic medicines are drug products made by homeopathic pharmacies in accordance with the processes described in the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States the official manufacturing manual recognized by the FDA. Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States

Homeopathic Medicines  Plants such as aconite, dandelion or plantain  Minerals such as iron phosphate, arsenic oxide, sodium chloride  Animals such as venom of a poisonous snack or ink of the cuttlefish

Homeopathic Medicines  Mix substance in alcohol to obtain a tincture  One drop of tincture is mixed with 99 drops of alcohol  Shake the mixture “succussion”  Left with 1C  Repeat process until get to appropriate potency  Small globules made from sugar are saturated with the liquid dilution

Safety of Homeopathic Medicines  When properly administered they are safe for everyone including pregnant woman, infants, children, adults and elderly.  There are no known or suspected drug interactions between homeopathic medicines and conventional medicines

Homeopathy Summarized It is important to remember that a medicine is homeopathic only if it is taken based upon the similar nature of the medicine to the illness. A medicine labeled as "homeopathic" will work only if it is homeopathic to the symptoms presented
