The Savior’s Sermon: Trust in God’s Strength St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, February 1 st

Welcome to St. Peter! During the Epiphany season Jesus reveals himself to be the Savior of all people through the worship of the Wise Men, his baptism in the Jordan River and by performing his miracles. But there is another way that Jesus reveals himself as our Savior – by the powerful way he preached and proclaimed God’s Word to the people. This week we begin a month long series of sermons based on portions of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. As we listen anew to our Savior’s Sermon, may we be encouraged to trust in God’s Strength!

Welcome to St. Peter! There are friendship registers at the end of each row. Please take a moment to give us your information so that we have a record of your time with us today. Thank you!

For Our Guests If you have questions, let us try to help. Speak with an usher, greeter, or the person next to you. If you’d like to learn more about St. Peter and its ministry, please talk to a pastor or member after the service.

The Savior’s Sermon: Trust in God’s Strength St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, February 1 st

Oh, Worship the King CW #243 Verses 1-5 Text: Robert Grant, Setting: HANOVER Tune: William Croft,

Verse 1: Oh, worship the King, all-glorious above; Oh, gratefully sing his pow'r and his love, Our shield and defender, the Ancient of Days, Pavilioned in splendor and girded with praise.

Verse 2: Oh, tell of his might; oh, sing of his grace, Whose robe is the light, whose canopy, space. His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form, And dark is his path on the wings of the storm.

Verse 3: This earth, with its store of wonders untold, Almighty, your pow'r has founded of old, Established it fast by a changeless decree, And round it has cast, like a mantle, the sea.

Verse 4: Your bountiful care what tongue can recite? It breathes in the air, it shines in the light, It streams from the hills, it descends to the plain, And sweetly distills in the dew and the rain.

Verse 5 (Please Rise): Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail, In you do we trust nor find you to fail. Your mercies, how tender, how firm to the end, Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend!

Opening Verses Pastor: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. All: And also with you.

Confession of Sin Pastor: We have come into the presence of God, who created us to love and to serve him as his dear children. But we have disobeyed him and deserve only his wrath and punishment. Therefore, let us confess our sins to him and plead for his mercy.

Confession of Sin All: Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth. In countless ways I have sinned against you and do not deserve to be called your child.

Confession of Sin All: But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt.

(Pastor announces our forgiveness) All: Amen.

Pastor: In the peace of forgiveness, let us praise the Lord.

Oh, Taste and See All (Sung): Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed are they who take refuge in him. Your Word, O Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.

Oh, Taste and See All: Your faithfulness continues forever. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed are they who take refuge in him.

Prayer of the Day Pastor: Let us pray. (The pastor says the Prayer of the Day.) All: Amen.

God’s Word to His People Daniel 3:13-27 Three men trust God for deliverance

Psalm # 1 Spoken Responsively Pastor: Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked All: or stand in the way of sinners

Pastor: But his delight is in the law of the LORD, All: and on his law he meditates day and night.

Pastor: He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yield its fruit in season All: and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

Pastor: Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, All: nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. Pastor: For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, All: but the way of the wicked will perish

God’s Word to His People 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 God chose the lowly things of this world

Pastor: Alleluia. The Spirit of the Lord is on me; he has anointed me to preach good news. Alleluia. Verse of the Day

God’s Word to His People Matthew 1:1-12 The blessedness of the Christian life

Jesus Sat With His Disciples CWS #763 Text: Stephen P. Starke, b Setting: JOYOUS LIGHT Tune: Marty Haugen, b. 1950

Verse 1: Jesus sat with his disciples On a mountainside one day; As the crowds of people gathered He began to teach and say:

Verse 1: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, Heaven’s kingdom they will share. Blessed are the sad and mourning, Joy and comfort will be theirs.

Verse 2: “Blessed are the meek and humble, All the earth to them is willed. Those who hunger to be holy, They are bless’d and will be filled.

Verse 2: Yes, the merciful are blessed, Mercy will to them be shown. And the pure in heart are blessed, They have eyes for God alone.

Verse 3: “Blessed are God’s sons and daughters, Making peace where there is strife. Blessed are the persecuted, Who for righteousness lose life;

Verse 3: Their reward is great in heaven, In the kingdom up above— So be glad to share my suff’ring, And rejoice to know my love.”
