Introduction to Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli

Stargirl is the story of a girl who is new in town. She is very different. She dresses differently than the other students at her high school, she plays a ukulele in the cafeteria at lunch time, and she is kind to others who are not nice to her.

Many people are mean to her because she is different from them.

She is discriminated against for her differences. She is not allowed to sit with the “cool kids” in the cafeteria.

Eventually, her differences are overlooked and people begin to accept her just because she is different!

Many people want to be like her, and begin to dress and act like Stargirl. Some people even carry around a ukulele.
