Japanese Literature: Pride in Poetry  Japanese Literature was inspired by Chinese models Came to its own after fifth century A.D.  Japanese adopted Chinese system of writing  Tanka form emerged in eighth century A.D. Brief lyrical bursts  Haiku formed in seventeenth century

Two Great Women Writers  Heian period (A.D ) greatest flowering of classical Japanese prose.  Tale of Genji - world’s first true novel  Murasaki is the Japanese William Shakespeare

The Balance of Opposites  the Chinese have endured disaster.  There is balance caused by process of change.  The yin-yang philosophy offers people hope.

Chinese Literature  literature and learning is an important aspect of Chinese culture.  more than half of all the books are written in Chinese.  You need to know how to read and write Chinese poetry for jobs.

Warring  Japan had war all over the place due to the families want to have control of the island.  The families created elite soldiers called samurais to fight for them.  In the end one family stopped them all and gain complete control.
