BELL RINGER– I CAN WRITE A CLEAR AND STRONG PARAGRAPH ABOUT CHARACTER.  When writing, what do the letters in A.P.E. stand for?  How does this help you write?  Pick up the APE paragraph structures from the table. W.7.4– Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.

A.P.E.  A—Answer the question being asked—Who is the character? What is their name? What are their character traits?  P—Proof! What events in the story can help support your answer about the character traits?  E—Extend—Explain how the proof from the story relates to the character trait. Why did you select that point in the story to support your answer? W.7.4– Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. I can write a clear and strong paragraph about character.

APE PARAGRAPH  Using your character traits sheet, compose a paragraph that discusses the character traits of either Rikki-Tikki, Nag, or Nagaina.  When finished, pick up a Self-Assessment Rubric from the Table and get a highlighter from the supply closet.  Follow the instructions on the Self-Assessment, then turn in both sheets into the second box on the table.  Silently read your library book. W.7.4– Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. I can write a clear and strong paragraph about character.
