PRACTICE MAP TEST What did you learn about the test? Was there anything that surprised you? Now that you are familiar with the test, how might you prepare your students for the next round? Teachers took a practice MAP test at the last data retreat, and the teachers were reviewing the experience as we enter into the next testing window.

QUICK REVIEW Rasch unIT scores (RIT) achievement scale linked to skills, not percentile scores equal interval score – like height and weight used to show growth over time independent of grade level because it’s based on skills Goal to get our students is 235 (Reading)
Score that helps identify reading material at level. Higher number indicates more difficult the reading. Helps students choose books that they can read independently! Helps them set goals for the future. LEXILE RANGE
HOW IS LEXILE DETERMINED? Word frequency (commonly used words) Sentence length (number of words per sentence) Lexile does not take into consideration subject matter, symbolism, prior knowledge, etc., which would explain some discrepancies. Lord of the Flies (770L) vs Animal Farm (1170L)
MOVING INTO THE NEXT ROUND OF MAP TESTING WHAT CAN WE EXPECT?
WINTER FEB. 16-MAR. 1 Later than last year Should give us better assessment of students’ skills Full semester of skills that teachers have been working on with students. Hopefully we will have fewer students with the dip during winter window.
