Nobel ScienceTechnology Math (STeM) Magnet Center Magnet Parent Meeting Tuesday, October 20, :30-8:30 pm Library

Welcome and Introductions Magnet Coordinator – Laura Yankie

Magnet School Overview The integration programs in LAUSD, including Magnets, were established by Court-Order to address the five harms of racial isolation: 1.Low Academic Achievement 2.Interracial Hostility and Intolerance 3.Low Self-esteem 4.Overcrowded Conditions 5.Lack of Access to Post-Secondary Opportunities

Magnet Programs LAUSD Magnets offer theme-based instructional opportunities to students living within the boundaries of LAUSD. Some Magnet Programs occupy entire school sites (full school magnets), while others are Magnet Centers located on regular school campuses with access to activities and experiences shared with the host school.

Grade Levels 7-8 – Average of 20 minutes for each academic class daily. *** Honors, SAS, and AVID students may have special consideration.***

Common Core Standards Instruction and Nobel STeM Theme Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, and Science standards drive the instructional focus to help ensure that students gain adequate exposure to a range of texts and tasks. Rigor is infused through reading complex texts and performing tasks to prepare students to be college and career ready. Honors Level Courses in Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies, and Accelerated Math Courses, offer differentiated curriculum and instruction based on the needs of GATE and High Achieving Students. Science, Technology, and Math themes are cross curricular in regular and honors level courses.

Closing Parent concerns and questions. Thank you!
