Resource Adequacy Perspectives PNW Resource Adequacy Steering Committee Meeting April 13, 2007

Resource Adequacy Steering Committee Meeting 2 Who Assesses Resource Adequacy? NWPCC/Adequacy Forum BPA (White Book) PNUCC (NRF) WECC/NERC/FERC Utilities Utility Commissions PUD Boards of Directors

April 13, 2007Resource Adequacy Steering Committee Meeting 3 Recent Conclusions NWPCC/Forum – the region has surplus energy and capacity for a number of years (w.r.t. a minimum adequacy standard) NWPCC 5 th Plan – region should secure options to be able to begin constructing new resources… in order to minimize the likelihood of high-cost futures BPA – “many individual utilities are looking at near- term deficits and consequently are considering or making power supply acquisitions” PNUCC – “indicates a need for power…to over 5,000 MWa in ten years”

April 13, 2007Resource Adequacy Steering Committee Meeting 4 What is the Message? Looking at the same power supply, albeit from different perspectives Should resource actions be taken? – YES There will be difference of opinion on what actions to take
