Theophany: a face-to-face encounter with God

Job A righteous man Blessed by God Who loses everything –lost all his children and all his wealth –afflicted with agonizing disease –abandoned by everyone he loved

How did Job respond? At first well But eventually falters –despaired of life –accused God of injustice & cruelty

Job 30:20–21 I cry to you for help and you do not answer me; I stand, and you only look at me. You have turned cruel to me; with the might of your hand you persecute me.
