PREVENTING AGRICULTURE POLLUTION

Essential Question: What measures can be taken to prevent agriculture pollution? Objectives: 1. Identify sources of pollution in agriculture and name rules to follow in preventing agriculture pollution. 2. Students will be able to identify agencies that promote agriculture pollution prevention in our county. 3. Students will be able to identify 3 national agencies that strive to prevent agricultural pollution.

Agriculture Pollution: Any pollution caused by agriculture activities

Possible Sources of Agriculture Pollution

Introductory Pests: -Can be brought in a country or location on seed, plants, fruit, or other products. Exotic Plants or Animals: -Plants and animals that are not native to a place Chemicals: -Many chemicals cause little or no damage if used properly. Waste Water -Excess water from irrigation, fish ponds, food processing plants and other places

Processing wastes: -Animal processing produces wastes that cannot be ran into streams -Vegetables, fruit, timber and other plants can produce wastes New Life Forms: -Advanced science is producing new non-natural forms of plants and animals that are considered as threats by some people.

Agencies that strive to prevent agricultural pollution

NRCS  Natural Resources Conservation Service - An agency of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) that provides technical assistance to farmers and other private landowners and managers. EPA  Environmental Protection Agency: - An agency of the U.S. federal government which was created for the purpose of protecting human health and the environment by writing and enforcing regulations based on laws passed by Congress. Bureau of Land Management: - An agency within the United States Department of the Interior that administers American public lands, totaling approximately million acres, or one-eighth of the landmass of the country.
