There are two types of animals: Invertebrates Vertebrates
INVERTEBRATES Animals without a Backbone or Spinal Column Protozoa Protozoa (phyla: protozoa) Arthropods Arthropods such as crabs, spiders and insects (phyla: Arthropoda) Echinoderms Echinoderms such as starfish (phyla: Echinodermata) Crustaceans Crustaceans such as crabs (subphyla: Crustacea) Annelids Annelids such as earthworms (phyla: Annelida) Arachnids Arachnids such as spiders (subphyla: Chelicerata class: Arachnida) Mollusks Mollusks such as octopus (phyla: Mollusca) Insects Insects (subphyla: Uniramia class: Insecta)
VERTEBRATES Animals with a Backbone or Spinal Column: (All these animals are in the phyla Chordata and the subphyla Vertebrata.)
