It’s almost time to ShakeOut! 9:26am, 26 September 2012 At 9:26am we will be conducting an exercise drill. At that time we will drop, cover and hold.

Massey University encourages everyone to take part in this earthquake drill as a way of becoming better prepared to respond to an earthquake; however, participation is not compulsory. If you are not comfortable taking part in this earthquake drill for any reason, you may choose not to, and may leave the room before the drill which take place at 9.26am. About ShakeOut at Massey

It is possible that a range of events – including fire or earthquake drills – may trigger unexpectedly strong emotions in people even if they were not directly affected by the Christchurch earthquakes. These reactions are a completely normal response to an abnormal event! If you would like support to deal with any emotions or experiences you may have, please contact Massey’s Employee Assistance Programme provider, confidentially, on Support services

The following videos show you how to drop, cover and hold in the event of an earthquake: Kids know best (1:00min) Drop, cover, hold: The university experience (4:42min) What is Drop, Cover, Hold?

Do you and your family or flatmates have a household emergency plan? Do you have supply of emergency food and survival items? Have you agreed on a place to meet if you couldn’t contact anyone by phone, or other methods? Have you agreed who would pick up your kids from school (if applicable)? Do you have pets and have you considered how to look after them in an emergency? Now consider what you would do next

Information and tips on how to get better prepared for an emergency is available here: The Massey website and Facebook page and security freephone number will be the key places to find information in an emergency: Call 0800 MASS 50 ( ) Emergency preparedness at Massey

If you would like support to deal with any emotions or experiences you may have, please contact Massey’s Employee Assistance Programme provider, confidentially, on A range of self-help information is also available on Massey’s Counselling resources on the web page available at: Support services
