District PLC

PDC Update  PDC has been supporting district wide initiatives  Each building level representative(s) should be working with their principals in regards to approval  Many districts are limiting sending teachers to conferences because there is no research behind the effectiveness of these conferences and the impact it has on student learning  Many districts are focusing majority of their 1% budget to bring the learning inside their district so the staff all hear the same information  Questions in regards to the building level budget have been brought to the committee

PDC budget highlights Budget Line Substitutes$14,000$15,000 Stipends$12,000$35,000 In District PD$11,500$ MHS$ ($9,092)$ BMS$ ($5,863)$ Benton$ ($1,537)$ Southeast$ ($2088)$ Eastwood$ ($2799)$ Northwest$ ($ )$ ECE and SCCC have very small budgets due to their grant funding. ($500.00)

So…  Be thoughtful of your colleagues  We will be amending the budget due to changes in curriculum writing  The PDC is aware of these concerns and will continue to address budgetary concerns and will be more diligent in denying when needed so the PD love can be spread amongst many  The district will continue to look at how to internally support learning as a whole  If you have any concerns please feel free to talk to your building level representatives, your principals and myself

Curriculum changes  All area of core content have new PROPOSED standards  readiness/curriculum/hb-1490-work-group- process/hb1490-work-group-proposed-standards readiness/curriculum/hb-1490-work-group- process/hb1490-work-group-proposed-standards  The chance for you have input has opened, please do so!

Curriculum Updates and Plan   Will not write any curriculum  Will continue to teach to the MLS and current GLE or CLE  Will do all pre and post test writing to these standards  Will lead all data team conversations aligned back to these current standards (bullet #2)  MAP and EOCs will remain aligned to the current standards (bullet #2)

May of 2016 The newly proposed standards should be approved and the final version should be released to all districts

Curriculum Updates and Plan   Will utilize the well written pre and post tests you are currently (16-17) writing with your teams for student growth purposes  Will continue to teach to the MLS and current GLE or CLE  Will continue to do all pre and post test writing to these standards  Will continue to lead all data team conversations aligned back to these current standards (bullet #2)  MAP and EOCs will remain aligned to the current standards (bullet #2)  Will write at least one content area of curriculum(ELA)

Curriculum Updates and Plan   Will implement the new curriculum written in (curriculum writing will include the new pre and post tests to be used for this year  All MAP and EOC’s will be aligned to the newly adopted and released standards (estimated timeline from DESE is May of 2016)  Will focus on other content areas of curriculum

Curriculum Updates and Plan  If we work smarter not harder in I think we may be able to do both ELA and Math  PDC will have to fund any time outside of contract hours  This may impact building level PD funds

Why vertical teaming  Develop added respect for what the other grade level does to facilitate learning which results in better collegiality  Learn where students should end the year in the grade level below their grade level, which results in better curriculum alignment  Learn where students should be at the start of a grade level above their grade level which results in better curriculum alignment  Increase in teacher collaboration which results in teams that operate more effectively and efficiently  Discuss outcomes of classroom/grade level common formative assessments to inform grade level instruction and determine the growth made at each grade level  Increase the districts instructional capacity for student learning, resulting in district wide growth

Vertical Teaming  Please remember our critical friends conversations we had last month  This is for the welfare of our students not the convenience of the adults  Everything you say or bring up today, can you end it with “To benefit student learning?”  Remember this is a “We—not me…” conversation  I will try to make it around to all work rooms today  Keep a list of running questions  Diane will need a report back from each vertical team—directions on the agendas
