Important Notes Leave all answers in “simplest form” No common factors in the numerator and denominator Use proper or improper fractions No Mixed Numbers!! No Decimals!! If a problem involves a mixed number, change it to an improper fraction If a problem involves a whole number, make it a fraction with a denominator of 1

Adding/Subtracting Fractions 1. Find the Least Common Denominator and manipulate the fractions so that each has the LCD 2. Add or Subtract the numerators 3. Write the sum or difference over the common denominator 4. Simplify if necessary

Example: Write in simplest form

Multiplying Fractions 1. Multiply the numerators and multiply the denominators 2. Simplify if necessary

Example: Write in simplest form

Dividing fractions 1. Multiply by the reciprocal of the denominator 2. Simplify if necessary

Example: Write in simplest form
