 There are three Steps to adding fractions: - Make sure the denominators are the same - add the numerators (the top numbers) and put the answer over the denominator - Simplify the fraction (if needed)

 At this stage we are going to focus on the second step: adding the numerator and putting it over the denominator: so for example: 2/5+ 1/5=3/5

 Copy the following into your book: 1/6+3/6=3/8+4/8= 2/16+10/16=14/20+2/20= 16/34+10/34=52/100+22/100= 5/10+3/10=1/3+1/3= 45/60+2/60=2/33+7/33

Now, think of how many ways you can write a fraction; for example ½ can be 3/6 or 4/8 or 5/10 To do this, you times (X) the nominator and the denominator by the same number 1 (x2) 2 __ = __ 2 (x2) 4

 After you have added a fraction, check to see if you can simplify it,  Remember: both the top AND the bottom number need to be divided by the same number to simplify it, if you cant, the fraction cant be simplified!
