Alignment of Course Standards and Assessments Overview of CTE Task Group

Bridge to the future 1 community college 8 districts Working as 1 Consortium Our purpose… 9

* AB86 is now known as AB 104: Adult Education Block Grant 1.Academic - Elementary and secondary basic skills, including classes required for a high school diploma or high school equivalency certificate 2.ESL - Classes and courses for immigrants eligible for educational services in citizenship and English as a second language, and workforce preparation classes in basic skills 3.Adults with Disabilities - Education programs for adults with disabilities 4.CTE - Short-term career technical education programs with high employment potential 5.Apprenticeship - Programs for apprentices The primary goal of the consortium is to develop a regional comprehensive plan to improve the delivery of adult education in the following five PROGRAM AREAS: How AB86, the Planning Grant, was Developed

How the Plan was Developed Seven (7) Focus area 1.Evaluated current levels and types of adult education programs 2.Evaluate current needs for adult education within our region 3.Integrate existing programs within the consortium for seamless transitions Transfer within the consortium Transitions into postsecondary education And into the workplace 4.Address the gaps identified in point 1 and 2 5.Accelerate student progress towards academic and/or career goals 6.Collaboration with help of ongoing professional development opportunities to achieve greater program integration and improve student outcome 7.Plans to leverage existing structures

After two or three drafts and almost a year of hard work, the final 171- page Narrative was completed and sent to the State before the deadline of March 1, 2015

Summer Work Grant Extension The State extended the usage of the initial grant funds to December of This allowed us to continue our work into the implementation phase.

Summer Work Scope of work First meeting – July 8 - alignment phase Committee started with three areas of CTE (Information Technology, Health Careers, and Culinary) Due to conflict of scheduling, participation and availability - our focused narrowed overtime Committee selected Information Technology as the focus point because all members of the consortium offered some form of this program. Program areas included: Computer Applications including graphic arts and webpage design Business Applications Computer Repair & Networking

AB104: Adult Education Block Grant How to get involved Sign up – Form will be passed out and your admin will be notified of your interest to participate Once Board approved, you will be notified of meeting dates and times Steering committee will determine next pathway based on recommendations You will be paid for your participation and work
