Continental Divide An imaginary line that divides the direction the water flows Every drop of water that drops on the west side eventually flows to the Pacific Ocean Every drop of water that drops to the east eventually flows into the Atlantic Ocean

Continental Divide

Landforms Two major mountain ranges in North America are the Rocky Mountains and the Appalachian Mountains

Rocky Mountains

They are a cordillera Cordillera- is a chain of mountain ranges Stretch more than 3,000 miles from Alaska to Mexico The Rockies contain peaks that reach over 14,000 feet

West of the Rockies There are three other mountain ranges west of the Rocky Mountains Alaska Range Cascade Range Sierra Nevada

Physical Map

Appalachian Mountains Appalachian Mountains stretch from New Brunswick to Alabama East of the central plains Short mountain ranges Only a few rise over 6,000 feet

Appalachian

Great Plains Stretch from Central Canada to Southern United States Contains flat grasslands

Canadian Shield Located in central Canada Made mostly of bedrock. Bedrock-Solid rock that is usually covered by soil, gravel and sand.

In northern parts of the shield, there are indignities and they are called Inuit.

Interesting Fact………. Prince Edward Island is the smallest province in Canada. It is famous for red sand beaches, red soil, and potatoes. It also is known for the Confederation Bridge which joins Prince Edward Island to New Brunswick. It takes just ten minutes to cross, with no wait times.

Prince Edward Island

NAFTA The United States, Canada and Mexico have created a treaty known as: The North American Free Trade Agreement It was created to eliminate tariff barriers to agricultural, manufacturing, and services; to remove investment restrictions; and to protect intellectual property rights.
