The The USA occupies the central part of North America. It stretches from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean.

The United States of America is the fourth largest country in the world (after Russia, Canada and China).

The United States covers the central portion of North America and includes Alaska and Hawaii. It is washed by the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.

The United States shares land borders with Canada (to the north) and Mexico (to the south), and a territorial water border with Russia in the northwest. The forty-eight states are bounded by the Pacific Ocean on the west, the Atlantic Ocean on the east, and the Gulf of Mexico to the southeast. Alaska borders the Pacific Ocean to the south, the Bering Strait to the west, and the Arctic Ocean to the north, while Hawaii lies far to the southwest of the mainland in the Pacific Ocean.

The USA is made up of 50 states and the District of Columbia, a special federal area where the capital of the country, Washington is situated. US states

Because of its size and location, it has a variety of geographical features. Large mountains, plains, vast deserts, wide canyons, rolling hills, prairies, frozen tundra, extensive coasts, forests, tropical islands, wetlands, swamps, and other features can be found.

Yellowstone is the United States’ first and the most famous national park. It includes large areas of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. Yellowstone Park has many areas with hot springs and geysers.

The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided gorge carved by the Colorado River in the United States in the state of Arizona. It is largely contained within the Grand Canyon national Park, one of the first national parks in the United States.

Death Valley National Park is the park in southeastern California and southwestern Nevada. The park consists of the desert area known as Death Valley, surrounded by high mountains.

The highest mountains are the Rocky Mountains, the Cordillera, the Appalachian Mountains and the Sierra Nevada. The highest peak is Mount McKinley which is located in Alaska. Appalachian Mountains Beyond the beaches and mountains of California, the Rocky Mountains in the West give way to a vast central plain, which merges with rolling hills and low mountains of the East. The United States of America has over 250,000 rivers, with a total of about 3,500,000 miles of rivers. The longest river in the USA is the Missouri River (it is a tributary of the Mississippi River and is 2,540 miles long), but the biggest in terms of water volume is the deeper Mississippi River.

The largest rivers are the Mississippi, the Missouri, the Rio Grande, the Colorado, the Columbia, the Saint Laurence River, the Yukon.

The Great Lakes are a collection of freshwater lakes located in eastern North America, on the Canada- United States border. Consisting of Lakes Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, and Ontario, they form the largest group of freshwater lakes on Earth. Four of the five lakes form part of the Canada-United States border; the fifth, Lake Michigan, is contained entirely within the United States. The Saint Lawrence River, which marks the same international border for a portion of its course, is the primary outlet of these interconnected lakes, and flows to the northern Atlantic Ocean.

The population of the country is more than 250 million people. Americans are made up from nearly all races and nations. That’s why the USA is called “the melting pot”. The largest cities are: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit, San- Francisco, Washington and others.
