Why am I here? BA in Economics Management- Ohio Wesleyan University Concentrations in History and English 2 years a Marketing Assistant for Manufacturing Company- liaison between Engineering and Sales & Marketing divisions. 13 years- Commercial Photographer- extensive international and domestic travel Masters of Arts in Teaching Program at MSU N-8 certified, Social Studies certified Teaching- 5 th grade at Calvin Coolidge School 8 th grade Social Studies at Eisenhower Camp Counselor - Canoe guide - Coach

Why are we doing this? District and State- -to teach students American History, develop citizenship, develop an understanding of how their government works and their role in it.

Why are we (really) here?  Prepare them for high school and beyond -Identify and organize important information -Recognize what works best for them -Expose them to a variety of test and learning situations -Prepare them to work with others

Why are we (really) here? Cont ’ d  Prepare them to make decisions of real importance…. They will be voting and driving in 3-4 years!

Recommendations, not placements Driven by requirements of RIH 12th grade reading level 12th grade writing level Use of Extension activities/ assignments An A in my class does not automatically get a recommendation for Honors. Recommendations for placement for 9th grade Social Studies classes

Where are we going? Goal- Set the bar high to create individuals who are … -well rounded and well adjusted adolescents -capable of good work -secure in themselves -capable of leading this country well.
