Google’s Mission and Founders  To organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.  Founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin met at Stanford University in 1995  By 1996, they had built a search engine (initially called BackRub ) that used links to determine the importance of individual webpages

GOOGLE CULTURE  the people make Google the kind of company it is  they hire people who are smart and determined  they favor ability over experience  Googlers share common goals and visions for the company  they hail from all walks of life  they speak dozens of languages, reflecting the global audience that they serve  when not at work, Googlers pursue interests ranging from cycling to beekeeping, from frisbee to foxtrot

GOOGLE CULTURE (continued)  Google strives to maintain the open culture often associated with startups –  everyone is a hands-on contributor and feels comfortable sharing ideas and opinions  they have weekly all-hands (“TGIF”) meetings  Googlers ask questions directly to Larry and Sergey and other execs about any number of company issues  Their offices and cafes are designed to encourage interactions between Googlers within and across teams and to spark conversation about work

GOOGLE LOCATIONS  Google has come a long way from the dorm room and the garage  They moved into their headquarters in Mountain View, California—better known as the Googleplex —in 2004

GOOGLE LOCATIONS (continued)  Today Google has more than 70 offices in more than 40 countries around the globe.  Some USA offices – Chicago, New York (2), Austin, Detroit, Madison, Los Angeles  Some International offices – Ireland, Italy, Norway, Greece, Warsaw, Mexico, Brazil, Montreal, Egypt  No two Google offices are the same  However, all offices have murals and decorations expressing local personality  Googlers shares cubes, yurts and "huddles”  There are video games, pool tables and pianos at the offices  There are cafes and "microkitchens" stocked with healthy food  good old fashioned whiteboards for spur-of-the-moment brainstorming
