C HRISTIAN ATTITUDES TOWARDS OTHER RELIGIONS 1. Some Christians believe that people can come to God through different religions, but only Christianity has the full truth, and only Christians can be certain that they will go to heaven. They believe this because:  the Bible says that salvation (going to heaven) comes through believing in Jesus  although God can be found in other religions, the full truth about God can only be seen in his son, Jesus. 2. Others believe that Christianity is the only way to come to God and that all religions are wrong. They believe this because:  Jesus said that he was the only way to God (‘I am the way, the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me.’ John 14:6) All Christian Churches teach that there should be religious freedom – everyone should have the right to follow whatever religion they want. They also teach that people should not be discriminated against because of their religion. However, there are three different Christian attitudes to other religions.

3. Some Christians believe that all religions are equal and that they are just different ways of finding God. So each person should follow the religion they feel most at home with. They believe this because:  they do not regard the Bible as the word of God  they believe that God is a force like gravity which can be discovered by humans in different ways. All Christians believe in religious freedom, but: some Christians believe there is some truth in other religions, but only Christianity is the whole truth some Christians believe Christianity is the only true religion some Christians believe all religions are a path to God. I SLAM AND OTHER RELIGIONS 1. Most Muslims believe that only Islam has God’s true message and that everyone should be converted to Islam. They also believe that Muslims cannot change their religion. They believe this because:  God dictated the Qur’an to Muhammad and it contains his last complete message on how to live  the Qur’an says that only Muslims will go to heaven  the Qur’an says that Muslims who give up the faith deserve to die. 2. A few Muslims believe that all religions are just different paths to the same God. They believe this because:  the Qur’an implies that Jews and Christians have some of the truth about God  the Qur’an says there should be no compulsion in religion (you should not be forced) All Muslims believe in religious freedom, but: some believe that only Islam has the truth some believe that God can be found in all religions. The Qur’an teaches that there should be no compulsion in religion and so all Muslims believe that people should be free to practise whatever religious faith they choose. However, there are two different attitudes to other religions among Muslims.
