Technical Presentations For the Semester Project Stephen W. Crown Mechanical Engineering University of Texas Pan- American April 12, 2004

2 Each group will create a training camp for the virtual world and give a class presentation on an advanced topic in Pro-Engineer that was not covered in class. 10 minute PowerPoint presentation showing the class what the tool does and how to use it. 100 points A virtual training camp giving an overview of the tool and specific instruction on how to use it. 150 Points Parts made in Pro- Engineer demonstrating the use of the tool 50 Points

3 A virtual training camp giving an overview of the tool and specific instruction on how to use it. An introductory tent that includes an html page (movie1.htm) giving an overview of the topic and a short movie (movie1.avi) demonstrating the tool. Five tutorial tents that contain an html pages and movies that walk the student through use of the tool and that build toward an application and vrml objects that show the student what they will be creating. A application page that sets up a design problem which requires the use of the tools presented in the tutorial instruction.

4 Presentation Helps Make graphs, diagrams, flow charts, and other technical materials easy to read and understand. Connect with the audience using eye contact. Prepare a presentation using a simple format. Add humor and personal touches to a technical presentation. Capture the audience’s attention within the first 60 seconds of the presentation.

5 Presentation Helps Use body language and movement that is effective and not distracting to the audience. Use the pace, tone, and pitch of their voice to create enthusiasm and interest in the audience. Avoid using jargon that distances them from non-technical experts. Manage Question & Answer sessions. Properly use visual aides to support their presentation.
