Measurement Conversions Using a T- Chart Customary and Metric Conversions Simplified

Measurement Conversions All conversions can be made using a T-Chart Within the same system Metric Customary From one system to another Metric to Customary Customary to Metric

Customary Example: Jerome’s father is 6 feet tall. How tall is he in inches? 1 foot 2 feet 12 inches 24 inches = ? What is the rule?

Customary Example: Jerome’s father is 6 feet tall. How tall is he in inches? 1 foot 2 feet 6 feet 12 inches 24 inches ? inches = X 12 Once you know the rule, apply it to the conversion you need to solve the problem.

Customary Example: Jerome’s father is 6 feet tall. How tall is he in inches? 1 foot 2 feet 6 feet 12 inches 24 inches 72 inches = X 12 Jerome’s father is 72 inches tall.

Metric Example: Sonia’s room is 5 meters in length. How long is the room in centimeters? 1 Meter 2 Meters 100 centimeters ? centimeters = X ?

Metric Example: Sonia’s room is 5 meters in length. How long is the room in centimeters? 1 Meter 2 Meters 5 Meters 100 centimeters 200 centimeters ? centimeters = X 100

Metric Example: Sonia’s room is 5 meters in length. How long is the room in centimeters? 1 Meter 2 Meters 5 Meters 100 centimeters 200 centimeters 500 centimeters = X 100 Sonia’s room is 500 centimeters in length.

An Example with Remainders: Susanne purchases 44 ounces of walnuts. How many pounds of walnuts does she purchase? 1 lb. 2 lbs 3 lbs 16 ounces 32 ounces 48 ounces = X =12 ounces Answer = 2 lbs, 12 ounces
