© Crown copyright 2009 AF1 Talk in purposeful and imaginative ways to explore ideas and feelings, adapting and varying structure and vocabulary according to purpose, listeners and content Falling into role as the young girl and thought tracking her attempt to fly the balloon to the moon Holding a whole class or group meeting planning other ways of getting to the moon The children could design, develop ideas for catching the moon as a preparation for a dragon’s den style activity Exploring the language around the scene using easi speaks or talking tin lids to record the vocabulary developed – this could be tied into the use and apply vocabulary element from the writing APP guidelines Children could use an audio ICT application, such as Audacity, to record their thoughts to publish as a school podcast or as an audio attachment to images

© Crown copyright 2009 AF3 Talking within role-play and drama - Create and sustain different roles and scenarios, adapting techniques in a range of dramatic activities to explore texts, ideas and issues The children could undertake a Dragon’s Den style activity in which they take on roles as Dragon’s, Inventors or Viewers giving their views on the presentations and decisions made. The children could plan and act out their own attempts to catch the moon. Children could freeze frame elements from the text and take photographs of each of these – they could be the stimulus for further discussion. Improvise dialogue as a flashback between a grandmother and grand child talking about how she tried to catch the moon. Children could undertake drama activities and place photographs of them into an ICT application, such as Voicethread, recording their thoughts, ideas and dialogue using the comment and voice recording tool.

© Crown copyright 2009 AF4 Talking about talk - Understand the range and uses of spoken language, commenting on meaning and impact and draw on this when talking to others Discuss how the children could undertake meta cognitive activities in which they review their performance this could be done through: The Dragon’s Den performance could be recorded, evaluated and improved. The image or photographs from work could be presented through ICT software for the children to review and self evaluate their work – this could be then presented to the rest of the class or even to parents on parents’ evening. Children could review their performance using work produced on voice recorders, video, Talking Tin Lids and Podcasts as evidence This is just the start of the list and you may wish to change this dependent on the text
