NEED FOR URBAN RESIDENTIAL HOSTELS FOR THE MARGINALIZED CHILDREN PRESENTED BY V. USHA RANI, DIRECTOR SANNIHITA CENTER FOR WOMEN AND GIRL CHILDREN SOCIETY HYDERABAD

SANNIHITA Striving for women and child rights since 2000  Sannihita is a non-profit, autonomous non-governmental organization established in  Works with a rights-based approach and stand for secular issues, identity movements, gender equality and against violence against women and girls. Our vision is to establish democratic relationships in institutions, families and society as a whole. Our programmes include:  Advocacy work and campaigns on human rights, gender equality, domestic violence, girl children’s rights, and housing rights of women and girl children.  Running three Rainbow homes for girls and one URH for boys in Hyderabad who are orphaned, neglected and abused children - providing shelter, care, education and support the children’s psychological, emotional and physical development.  Conducting research on street vendors’ issues, housing rights, issues of minority women, Dalit women, and grassroots organisations aiming to bridge the gap between the issues of the people and state policies.

URBAN RESIDENTIAL HOSTELS in HYDERABAD A Preview Right to Education - In an effort to provide equal opportunities’ in education to under privilege below poverty line children/working children, who are either school dropouts or never enrolled children due to various social reasons, agencies/district authorities identify such children, conduct alternative learning programs, bridging courses with the help of NGOs (RSTCs) to get them back to mainstream education system. Urban Deprived Children include the following: - Children without Adult Protection- Single parent children on the streets - Orphans- Street children with parents - Homeless children- Rag pickers - Broken family children (on the streets)- Beggars  Total for 6 Urban Residential Hostels were sanctioned by the government in and in which only 2 such schools are operating in and around Hyderabad and remaining closed due to incompetence.  SANNIHITA operating its URH at Trishul Park, Bollaram High school and operating successfully for the past 3 years.

U R H – The Need for a better TELANGANA The Proposal  With the successful running of its 3 Rainbow Homes for girls and one URH for Boys, Sannihita felt the need to extend the concept of URHs throughout the state of Telangana - for an educated Bangaru Telangana – A dream of the Government of Telangana as well as of its public.  Sannihita proposes to identify the high schools situated across the state that can accommodate Residential hostels for the deprived children to provide them uninterrupted education from 6 th to 10 th class and hence provide them vocational training for their self-sustenance.  NGOs, who dedicated their lives for better social transformation, when provided with requisite support from administration, can do wonders. Sannihita, on its part since 2000, is thriving for the betterment of lives of the fairer sex, also focussed on making the children who are socially deprived and marginalized better citizens who can otherwise may become antisocial elements.  Sannihita envisions an educated, healthy society with every child – irrespective of their social implications- is able to grab his/her right to education. A better citizen for a better society.

URH - SANNIHITA The Journey  Sannihita started its Urban residential home at Trishul Park, Bollaram in the year 2011 with a strength of 10.  Children receive good caring from the team towards their well being – being their health, education or the physical as well as mental growth.  Every challenge we met in our journey strengthened our will to serve better for the children and the society.  Sannihita team always tried their best to provide the best for these children – be it food, health care, education or the moral support.  Sannihita believes in providing the children better education along with a focus to nurture leadership and team building skills through games, cultural activities and outings.

RESIDENTIAL HOSTELS A step towards BANGARU TELANGANA Every success reinforces our will. Every failure hardens our determination. We are committed and strive hard to make Telangana BANGARU TELANGANA. We anticipate your cooperation in this regard. We need your support *** THANK YOU ***
