Computer Programming Application Friday 10/29/2010

What is wiki? We have all heard of and probably used wikipedia… But… What is a wiki?

Wiki The simpliest on-line database that will work. Wiki is a piece of server software that allows users to freely create and edit Web page content using any Web browser. Wiki supports hyperlinks and has a simple text syntax for creating new pages and crosslinks between internal pages on the fly

That sounds good… so what’s wrong with wikipedia? Allows the organization of contributions to be edited Allows the content to be edited Open editing It is a WYSIWYG editor – What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG)

So what does wiki stand for? What I Know is… See if you can verify that on-line for homework. If not, let’s create a Wiki – that states that Wiki stands for “What I Know Is.”

Can you edit a wikipedia article? Yes, try it sometime. – But don’t get yourself banned. Read their guidelines

Let’s create our own wiki

We want it and we want it for free.
