Steps for writing an effective INTRODUCTION: 1.First, research and read about your topic; apply the “ACE” strategy. (CHECK) 2.Create a hooking lead for your topic. (CHECK) 3.End with a strong thesis statement. Video: How to write a thesis statement?

What is a Thesis Statement?

A thesis statement is where you state your position and preview two to three reasons that support your claim.

Why do I need a thesis statement?

An essay is built around a thesis statement.

Where do I put my thesis statement?

It is the final sentence of you introductory paragraph, usually after the hooking lead.

Where do I defend or argue my thesis statement?

Writers defend the thesis statement in the body of the essay.

Thesis Organizer Argumentative Topic: Three Major Points (based on ACE evidence): 1) 2) 3) Thesis: I believe… because…list your reasons

Thesis Examples I believe assigned seating in the cafeteria is necessary because it reduces bullying and gossiping, cuts down on chaos, and makes everyone feel like they belong. I do not believe that toddlers should participate in beauty pageants because of the emphasis placed on looks, the overall cost to families, and the pressure to win.
