Literature stimulates our imagination Literature stimulates our imagination. By increasing our capacity to imagine, great literature makes our lives larger. Great writing becomes the voice that is great within us. This year, we will probe the characteristics of American literature, especially what makes it different from the literature of all other nations. You will learn why American literature is important to you, especially as we continue on in the 21st century.
