New Communication Tools In the past year, we created and launched A downloadable PowerPoint summary of major meetings so reps have a ready-to-use resource to present to peers, societies, and home institutions The CFAS Member Representative Newsletter, which profiles reps and societies, reports news, and provides tips for navigating the AAMC. Published quarterly (the next edition comes out immediately after the AAMC Annual Meeting) The CFAS listserv for general use among reps
New Communication Tools We also added content to including a CFAS brochure, a guide to being a CFAS rep, AAMC resources for faculty, and a summary of CFAS reps and accomplishments.
New Initiative on Defining Faculty CFAS is leading a new interdisciplinary project at the AAMC, the Work Group to Define Faculty, which seeks to consolidate and build upon past work on the topic. It includes voices from CFAS, GWIMS, GFA, GDI, GFP, GRMC, and GREAT, and is chaired by Rosemarie Fisher.

Your Feedback on GME CFAS reps have been highly engaged in the Optimizing GME initiative since it began within the past year. Most recently, CFAS reps were among the key respondents in a poll on the optimal learning environment.

New Engagement Opportunity After hearing from CFAS reps that we needed more opportunities to engage, we have just rolled out the CFAS Content Areas, providing reps with opportunities to engage on critical topics and also providing an informational resource for existing CFAS committees and working groups. These are free-form and CFAS member driven.
New Engagement Opportunity So far, more than 50 CFAS reps have signed up to participate in the CFAS Content Areas. Many of the topics, including health policy and global health came directly from CFAS reps. Committee/Working Groups Basic Science Working Group 1. How do we sustain the research enterprise, graduate student education in the time of decreasing research support? 2. Inclusion of the value of basic science faculty in AAMC effort to promote value of AHCs. Mission Alignment and Impact of Faculty Educators Working Group 1. Responsible for plenary session at CFAS spring meeting 2015 on "The Future of the Fourth Year of Medical School” and this will lead to a manuscript submission to Academic Medicine. 2. Continuing work on inventory of governance structures of AHCs

Recent interests include advocacy strategies to assure sufficient medical and graduate education (GME, etc.), and to maintain federal support for biomedical discovery research (NIH, NSF, etc.) Nominating and Engagement Committee 1. New Society Members The AAMC Board of Directors approved membership of four new CFAS members in September American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons American College of Cardiology American Society of Clinical Cardiology Center for Medicine after the Holocaust We hope to welcome their new reps at our upcoming Spring Meeting. Other societies are also in process.
