Literacy at Kinmylies Teach children letter sounds and how to build these to make words. Build up a sight vocabulary of common words. Teach children knowledge about language - concepts of print, grammar, punctuation etc. Model good reading habits and foster a lifelong love of books and reading for pleasure. Use an engaging, interesting and progressive core reading scheme.

Phonics Homework Sounds Homework Each week - 3 new sounds. One sound on each page. Write the sound Read the sound Find the sound Draw or stick in a picture of something containing the sound.

Literacy - Reading Oxford Reading Tree

Reading Homework Wordless Books – encourages discussion. Includes extended story. Key words – in each book to build up a bank of words. Reading Activities – encourage reading for enjoyment. Reading the book not memorising. Book Bug Bags coming out soon.

Practical and active using problem solving

Maths Teach the concept of number i.e. knowing the value of number and how to write it correctly. Activities encourage discussion and talking about learning. Lots of different strategies taught so that they choose the best one for them.

Maths Homework Weekly Maths Challenge Practical and use things that children will come across in their environment. Encourages discussion. Homework jotter for recording activities if need to.
