The Rainbow Fish PowerPoint by: Brooklyn Peterson by: Marcus Pfister
Once upon a time, in the deep blue sea, there lived a fish. This fish wasn’t just any kind of fish though. It was the prettiest fish ever seen!
His scales were made up of magnificent blues, bright reds, and of course, the glittery rainbow scales.
All of the fish in the sea were amazed at his beauty. They called him the Rainbow Fish. “Come and play with us Rainbow Fish!” the fish would call out. But the Rainbow Fish would just glide past.
One day, a little blue fish asked the Rainbow Fish, “Can I have one of your rainbow scales?” “They are so beautiful and you have so many!” “You want me to give you one of my scales? Who do you think you are? Get away from me!” said the Rainbow Fish. Frightened and upset, the little blue fish swam away and told all of his friends.
From then on, no one messed with the Rainbow Fish. Whenever he swam by, the other fish would turn away. What good were shimmering scales with no one to admire them? The Rainbow Fish was now the loneliest fish in the sea.
One day, the Rainbow Fish told a starfish about his troubles. He said to the starfish, “I really am beautiful. So why doesn’t anyone like me?” The starfish replied, “I can not answer that for you, but if you go behind the coral reef to a deep cave, you will find the wise octopus. She can help you answer that question.”
The next day, the Rainbow Fish found the cave. It was very dark, but soon two eyes came about. It was the wise octopus! “I have been expecting you.” said the octopus. ”The waves have told me your story. This is my advice.” “Give a glittering scale to each of the other fish. You will no longer be the most beautiful fish in the sea, but you will know how it feels to be happy.”
“But I can’t…” the Rainbow Fish started to say. But before he could finish his sentence, the wise octopus had disappeared into a dark cloud of ink. “Give away my beautiful scales? Never. How could I ever be happy without them?” thought the Rainbow Fish to himself. Suddenly, the fish felt the light touch of a fin. It was the little blue fish!
“Rainbow Fish,” the blue fish said, “Please don’t be angry. I just want one little scale.” “It’s just one little scale,” thought the fish to himself. “ I wouldn’t miss just one.” Carefully, the Rainbow Fish plucked one of his scales and gave it to the little blue fish. “Thank you so much Rainbow Fish!” said the fish as he tucked the shining scale against his blue ones.
Soon, a rather strange feeling came over the Rainbow Fish. For awhile he watched the little blue fish swim back and forth with his new scale glistening in the water. The blue fish zoomed through the sea with his scale sparkling, so it didn’t take long for other fish to surround the Rainbow Fish. Everyone wanted a scale, so the Rainbow Fish began giving them out left and right.
And the more scales the Rainbow Fish gave out, the more delighted he became. When the water around him was filled with shining scales, the Rainbow Fish finally felt home among his friends. At last, the Rainbow Fish had only one scale left. Although his most prized possessions had been given away, he was still extremely happy.
“Come on Rainbow Fish,” the fish called out. “Come and play with us!” “Here I come!” said the Rainbow Fish and happy as a splash, he swam off to play with his old friends.
