Helping Villages of South America A Brief Overview of Global Humanitarian in South America

Goals of Global Humanitarian Promote international understanding Help villagers in less-developed countries (LDCs) help themselves Enhance education and literacy Improve air and water quality in homes and villages Promote good nutrition among villagers

Promoting International Understanding Organize service expeditions Sponsor student internships Publicize needs of LDCs

Helping Villagers Help Themselves Work in villages based on needs identified by village leaders Expedition volunteers work under direction of villagers Carry out self-sustaining projects

Enhancing Education and Literacy Aid in setting up schools Help fund school building projects Train potential teachers In villages, teach –Spanish to non-Spanish speakers –Basic reading and writing skills –Personal hygiene

Improving Air and Water Quality Help build Lorena adobe stoves Improve water acquisition and storage –Catchment systems –Wells –Pumps

Promoting Good Nutrition Help build greenhouses Provide specialized seeds –High-altitude seeds –Low-water seeds Help build Lorena adobe stoves

Impact Since the Year 2000 Served in 22 villages in LDCs Over 6000 villagers affected Helped construct –87 Lorena adobe stoves –8 schools (partial or complete) –9 greenhouses –14 water wells –38 water catchment systems –21 homes (huts)
