Key Terms Public Works: government funded building projects New Deal: Included wide range of measures aimed at accomplishing 3 goals- Relief, Recovery, Reform (3 R’s) Fireside Chats: radio address by FDR, speaking personally with Americans
Subsidy: Government payment, used with farmers to grow fewer crops Hundred Days: Period of government activity during which FDR pushed Congress to put in place many reform measures. Opened all sound banks and encouraged people to deposit money= deposits increased.
Dr. Francis Townsend: Criticized New Deal for not doing enough for older Americans – proposed plan for providing for age 60+ citizens (questions)
Second New Deal: During second term of 1 st 100 days, launched and funded new relief programs. Social Security: Provided pension or guaranteed/regular payments for people 65 and older CIO: Committee for Industrial Organization- launched new strikes, “sit- downs” and unions
