TRUSTING THE LORD Text: Matthew 6:24-34 Mat 6:24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

Mat 6:25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Mat 6:26 “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than

they? Mat 6:27 “Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? Mat 6:28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; Mat 6:29 “and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Mat 6:30 “Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Mat 6:31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

Mat 6:32 “For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. Mat 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Mat 6:34 “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

INTRO: Faith is composed of trust and confidence Last week, we have studied that the manifestations of having trust in God includes: You will not fear anything You will be afraid of anything You will have confidence You will not lean on your own understanding

You will acknowledge the Lord in all your ways AIM: FOR US TO BUILD OUR TRUST IN THE LORD FOR US TO BE ABLE TO SEEK THE KINGDOM OF GOD FIRST I. THE ETYMOLOGY OF MAMMON- V 24 Etymology is the study of the history of words, their origins,

and how their form and meaning have changed over time. Mammon-comes from late Latin “mammon” Greek- “mamona” riches Aramaic- “mamon” money Mishnaic Hebrew- “mmon” meaning money, wealth, possessions, although it may also have meant "that in which one trusts"

It was personified as a false god in the New Testament. {Mt.6.24; Lk.16.13} II. THE ISSUE OF THE MATTER Who do we trust? God or Mammon (Money)? We cannot trust both God and money Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart Do not put your trust in false god (mammon/money)

Will it be possible to trust both? No, you will love the one and hate the other Or you will be loyal to the one and despise the other We will serve whom we trust Either you are serving God or money If you are not serving God, you must be serving money Dinidiyos mo na ang pera

III. MAJOR PROOF IF WE DON’T TRUST THE LORD-VS Worried in life Worry means- to feel uneasy or concerned about something; be troubled. Worried on what to eat Worried on what to drink Worried on their health Worried on what to wear

Command to look at the birds They neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, YET your heavenly Father feeds them Are you not of more value than the birds? How much does a bird cost? God is telling us, we are valuable to Him as Christ died for us Do not depreciate your worth

“Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? Consider the lilies they neither toil nor spin Even Solomon was not arrayed like them “Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ In other words TRUST HIM For after all these the Gentiles seek Gentile is unbeliever They do not accept God’s Word as real or true

The bottom line is we don’t really have a firm reliance on God’s His faithfulness, character, or Word IV. ACID-TEST FOR TRUST Uncontestable basis “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM Life is full of choices

The kingdom must be our first priority above all things Kingdom vs. work? Kingdom vs. business? Kingdom vs. family or relationship with others? SEEK HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS To be in right relationship with God To be full of rights Doing what is right

V. CONTINUE TO TRUST GOD Do not worry about tomorrow-v 34 He blessed you yesterday, He blessed you today, He will continue to bless you tomorrow Hebrews 13:5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. For tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Do not accumulate your problems Do not be responsible for all the problems in the world around you.

CHALENGE: Do we really have a firm reliance on God’s character, faithfulness, and Word? Do we really accept His Word as real and true? Are we seeking His Kingdom first and His righteousness?

CONCLUSION: Psalm 37:3Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Isaiah 26:4 Trust in the LORD forever, For in YAH, the LORD, is everlasting strength.
