Corporate Training Proposal Forklift Operation & Safety Team Initech

Introduction:  Quad Graphics is the largest privately held commercial printing company and the third largest printer in the western hemisphere  They employ approximately 12,000 people worldwide  Quad Graphics primary production is magazine and catalogue printing and distribution.

Area of Concern: At Quad Graphics out of 12,000 employees 1,200 are powered lift truck operators. OSHA regulation requires that each operator is competent to operate a powered industrial truck safely. Is Quad Graphics in compliance?

Proposed Areas of Development: 1)The training of powered lift truck operators to meet OSHA standards 2)Implementation of Safety guidelines around the operation of power lift trucks 3)The reduction in the number of workplace injuries and death as a result of inadequate operation of power forklifts.

Proposed Areas of Development con’t 4)After the certification of all current operators, a training will be put in place for all new hires. 5)Their will also be a recertification process put in place for new hires

Description: Assessment of Problem: –High number of workplace injuries and deaths as a result of inadequate power truck lift training. –Unsafe environment to operate power trucks. –To become OSHA compliant in the area of power truck lift operation.

Goals: 1)This training program will ensure that all powered truck operators have the tools necessary to perform their job safely. 2)This training program will also ensure that the environment is safe for the operation of power lift trucks. 3)A training program that will continue to be upgraded and a part of new employee orientation.

Course Outline – Sites Classroom Instruction – Day One Practical Test – Day Two Practical Training – Day Three

Lesson Plan Truck related topics -Upon Completion of this lesson the trainee will : 1. Identify the equipment features of a PIT 2. Be able to describe and list safe operating techniques. 3. List the Load limitations of the PIT 4. Give a summary of the information contained in the Operators Manual

Injury and Cost Comparison  Accidents and Injuries OSHA estimates that there are over 680,400 accidents each year related to forklifts(1997)  Cost By complying with OSHA standards and providing proper use of Power Forklift training would save employers $135 million in costs associated with power industrial truck-related accidents.

Conclusion It is to Quad Graphics Advantage to implement and maintain A Training plan for its Power Lift Truck Operators for the following reasons: -Cost efficiency -Mission focused -OSHA required -Accident and Injury prevention
