ULTIMATE FRISBEE HPWB 7th & 8th

Modified Rules: The Field: Will be rectangular approx. 50 yards by 25 yards, with 2 end zones. Initiate Play: Each point begins with both teams lining up on the front of their end zone. The defense throws the Frisbee to the offense. Teams will be 5 vs. 5. Scoring: Each time the offense completes a pass into the defense’s end zone, the offense scores a point. Movement of the Frisbee: The Frisbee may be advanced in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate. Players may not run with the Frisbee. The player with the Frisbee has 6 seconds to throw the Frisbee, and must pivot on non-throwing foot (see video). The defender will count out loud to announce the 6 second rule. Change of Possession: When a pass is not completed (i.e. out of bounds, drop, block, interception, stalled), the defense takes possession and now becomes the offense to move to their end zone.

Continued: Substitutions: Players not in the game will rotate quickly in and out, from the sidelines, after every 4 plays or after every score. Non-contact: No physical contact is allowed between players. Only 1 defender allowed to block player that has Frisbee. A foul occurs when body contact is made. Fouls: Any intentional body contact. If the player disagrees with the foul call, it becomes a replay situation. Self-Officiating: Players are responsible for officiating their game. Spirit of the Game: Sportsmanship and fair play are most important. Have fun and be a good teammate! Stay tuned for additional rules!

Additional Pointers: Traveling- moving pivot foot. If Frisbee is caught, then it’s a replay. If it’s not caught by offense, it’s a turnover. Accidental contact- no foul called. Intentional contact- call “foul” and if defense agrees then it’s a replay. Remember the spirit of the game is all about fair play and officiate your game. Cutting- making sudden movements to get away from defense. Bunching- constantly playing too close to your teammates. Pick/ screen foul- purposely causing the offense to run into the path of a defender. Stall count- holding Frisbee beyond 6 seconds after defender begins counting out loud.

Additional Pointers: Pull- is the term used when defense throws Frisbee to offense to start the game, or after a goal has been scored to start a new play. REMINDER- If a pass is dropped, goes out of bounds, or is intercepted by defense…..it gets turned over to opposite team at the point of play. Know the rules and officiate fairly. Be a good team player. All players shall remain engaged and actively participating.

Basic Backhand Throw:

Cues and Keys: Proper firm grip with palm facing down, thumb on top. See picture and video. Thrown across the body, parallel to the ground. Step with non-opposition (right hand & right foot, vice versa). User creates spin with snap of the wrist. Follow through on your throw. Be able to judge the distance of your target.

Basic Forehand Throw:

Cues and Keys: Proper firm grip with palm facing up, thumb on top. Step with non-opposition (right foot & right hand, vice versa) Body facing receiver or target. Snap wrist causing spin as you release parallel to ground. Follow through on your throw. Be able to judge the distance of your target.

Basic Catches: Pancake grip (2 hands): almost like a clap on the Frisbee. 1 Hand: caught with one hand on the rim of the Frisbee. 2 Hand: caught with two hands on the rim of the Frisbee. Always track the Frisbee. Best to catch Frisbee away from the body or face (prevent injury and for best control).

Field Layout:

Captain and Co-Captain Responsibilities: Captain and Co-Captain ensures that all players are rotating in and out. Ensure all players are actively participating and will report those who are not to teacher. Keep score and players officiate your games. Tie Breaker will be “Rock-Paper-Scissors.” Leading team will move up 1 field to the west. Trailing team will remain on the same field. The idea is to maintain your position on the #1 field. See field diagram.
