Mathematical Headlines This is not your Momma’s Math Shift 1: Focus From coverage to mastery Focus and deepen instruction Shift 2: Coherence Think across grades, and link to major topics within grades Shift 3: Rigor Pursue conceptual understanding, procedural skill and fluency, and application with equal intensity

1.Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. 2.Reason abstractly and quantitatively. 3.Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. 4.Model with mathematics. 5.Use appropriate tools strategically. 6.Attend to precision. 7.Look for and make use of structure. 8.Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.

Classroom Rules are consistent with school rules. Students are to demonstrate courtesy and respect at all times. Safety is the primary concern for all. Refer to the student handbook. 1. Enter the room calmly, quietly and ready to learn. 2. Listen and follow directions. 3. Be prepared for class (paper, pencils, text, notebook, etc…). 4. No put downs 5. Do your Best 6. Respect and Honesty 7. No extra items like food, drinks, toys, cell phones or any other distractions. 8. Common Sense 9. Continue to have fun with math.
