Presentation transcript:

The way of the cross during our term We are going to think about a few images from Jesus’ way of the cross and try to link them to our experience of the term Sieger Koder

“Embrace” Jesus receives the cross What have been the challenges of this term for you? We start with the experience of the cross for Jesus It was something he didn’t deserve It wasn’t fair And yet he had to deal with it And keep trusting his Father in heaven What things have been unfair for you this term What challenges have you had to face? Have you been able to trust God as a Father?

How have you made mistakes with friends or at home, or at school ? Cornerstone Jesus falls How have you made mistakes with friends or at home, or at school ? On the way to his death Jesus fell over He was laughed at and called names He was made to look a fool When have you been embarrassed or looked foolish? How have you fallen below the standards expected? How did you get the strength to stand up and keep going?

Who has shared the struggle with you this term? No words Jesus meets his Mother Who has shared the struggle with you this term? On the way to Calvary, where Jesus was crucified, Jesus met his Mother She could do nothing practical to help him But she showed her care and shared his pain. Who has been your support through this term Who has understood you, listened to you and cared? Which people have you been able to support When they were struggling this term?

Who has been a friend and cheered you up and helped you to do better? Together Simon of Cyrene Who has been a friend and cheered you up and helped you to do better? When Jesus was losing all his strength They forced a man called Simon to carry Jesus’ cross He gave practical help and kindness In a terrible situation. Who has been a practical friend, cheering you up, easing the burden this term? How have you been able to carry others burdens and show kindness?

How have your eyes been opened? Icon: Veronica How have your eyes been opened? Your wounds healed Your sadness lifted? As he was walking, Jesus was covered with blood He could no longer see where he was going. A woman came and wiped his face And an image of the face of Jesus is said to have appeared on the cloth Who has helped you see the way ahead this term? What have you discovered about the way ahead for you? Where have you seen the face of Jesus most clearly In other peple this term?

Face to face Nailed to a cross Where did violence or bullying touch your life this term? How far have you been too hard on others? When Jesus got to Calvary Hill he was stripped and laid on the ground People gathered and looked down at him And they laughed at his pain and shame as the nails went in When have I been surrounded by hard heartedness Where did I find the strength to keep believing in my own goodness? Have I been heard hearted to others this term?

You have a God who knows how hard life can be…… Talk to God in your heart about the joys and sorrows of this term…. As we look at an image of the crucified Jesus we will leave some silence and a question… Quiet music only for a minute

What do you grieve about at the end of this term? Grieving What do you grieve about at the end of this term? Ask God to gather up the pieces of the term and lead them towards resurrection and new life. Jesus body was taken from the cross and placed in his mothers arms Her heart would have broken to see him so broken by life What do you grieve over at the end of term? What do you need to lay to rest as this term ends?

Let go of the past and learn from it……. The Grave Lay the term to rest…… Let go of the past and learn from it……. Take time to rest and, with gratitude, build your strength for a new future As we focus on the shrouded body we are going to add to it some of the things your year group has said that have been tough to face List of form items from the sheets read here But before we move on we have a story to tell and a warning about what happens when you lay something to rest…….
