1.What is a Reptile? 1. What do turtles, alligators, crocodiles, snakes, and lizards have in common? 2 They are all reptiles.
Chapter 3. Phylum Chordata At some point of their lives, all have a: - notochord - hollow nerve cord - pharyngeal pouches - tail.

 Vertebrates: feature a well developed brain enclosed in a cranium. They are large and very active  Tunicates: invertebrates that are free swimming or sessile  Lancelets: Mostly small eel-like animals that can swim, but are mostly in the sand

 Jawless Fish  Oldest class of vertebrates  Examples: Hagfish and Lampreys  Type of fish that cannot regulate body temperature

 Jawed fish  Paired fins and nares  Two-chambered hearts  Scales  Cartilaginous skeletons  Include Sharks, rays, and chimeras

 Bony fish  Oldest fossils about 420 million years old  Have swim bladders  body coated with mucus glands  Have an almost completely calcified skeleton  Include Marlins, Groupers, and Gobies

 Skin is permeable to water  All have poison glands as a defense mechanism  Live in water and on land  Can change color, bright colors = highly toxic  Four limbs  Have a cranium, spine, and rib cage  Include Salamanders, frogs, and caecilians

 Cold-blooded  Live only on land  Snakes only reptile without a backbone  Lay eggs to reproduce  Include Snakes, lizards, alligators, and turtles

 Birds  Have feathers, Wings, wishbones, and bills  Endothermic  Lay eggs for reproduction  have no teeth  Include birds

 All are warm blooded  Born Alive  Have hair or fur on their bodies  All have lungs to breathe air  Use milk to feed young  Include humans, elephants, and leopards
