Ancient codes of right and wrong It’s the Law! Ancient codes of right and wrong

Writing into the Day Why do we have laws? Do you think that there are certain laws that all or most cultures have in common? What are some of these “universal laws” that we can all agree on?

Hammurabi’s Code The Code of Hammurabi is a well-preserved Babylonian law code, dating to ca. 1700 BCE. The sixth Babylonian king, Hammurabi, enacted the code, and partial copies exist on a human-sized stone stele and various clay tablets. One nearly complete example of the Code survives today, on a diorite stele in the shape of a huge index finger

The Ten Commandments The Ten Commandments, is a text in the Bible in which God gives religious and moral precepts to the people of Israel from the mountain referred to as Mount Sinai. Jews and Christians believe that these commandments were revealed by God as he spoke to Moses from a Burning Bush. The Ten Commandments is regarded as a moral foundation in Judaism, and many Christian denominations They include instructions to worship God alone and to keep the Sabbath as well as prohibitions against murder, theft and adultery.
