PURPOSE  To provide enhanced opportunities for those academically eligible and approved students who are seeking a more challenging academic program

CONCEPT ◦ Offer members a higher level college preparatory program. ◦ Members are required to take Honors and Advanced Placement courses earlier in their high school experience ◦ The program will require course work involving advanced research, writing and critical thinking as well as summer academic work. ◦ Members will be encouraged to publish a document in an area of their interest by their junior year. ◦ Members will be offered enrichment opportunities to include focused college guidance, cultural experiences and the option of exploring other areas of personal academic interest – all supported by field trips. ◦ Online courses will be available for those who encounter scheduling conflicts and/or want to explore academic interests in areas not offered at Burke (fee applies).

RETENTION  To remain in the PSP, students must accomplish the following: ◦ Maintain a GPA of 93 ◦ Participate in at least one extracurricular activity each semester, eg; club, Society or competitive athletic team ◦ Complete monthly community service hours (Freshmen/Sophomores – 3 hrs; Juniors/Seniors – 7 hrs, may be served coincidental with NHS hours) ◦ Complete one research project per year as designated by class ◦ Complete academic summer study requirements plus one summer project presented to and approved by the PSP committee no later than May 15.

 Students will still be competitive for top tier universities  Students may still be eligible to for Honors courses  Students may still be eligible for Advance Placement course  May re-compete for admission as a Sophomore, if space permits. PSP Does Not: Guarantee acceptance into an Ivy League school Guarantee a 4.0 GPA Guarantee good SAT or ACT scores But it will give you all the tools to achieve these goals! The Student Makes the Difference!
