Better data for decision making through a data revolution Michael Morris Results Adviser Corporate Planning & Finance Date: 26/05/2014

The High Level Panel on the Post-2015 Development Agenda “ Data must also enable us to reach the neediest … This means that data gathered will need to be disaggregated by gender, geography, income, disability and other categories, to make sure that no group is being left behind ”

Three areas relevant to the Data revolution 1.Poverty data fit for policy purpose 2.Better analysis of existing national statistics and capacity building 3.Increased Access to information

Poverty data fit for policy purpose Enhancing the Country Poverty Assessment process

Poverty data fit for policy purpose Welfare questions included in the more frequently conducted Labour Force Survey

Poverty data fit for policy purpose Predictors of poverty to complement income/consumption poverty measures + Employment

Better analysis of existing national statistics and capacity building Too little is spent on financing statistics % of total Official Development Assistance (ODA), globally (PARIS21) % of ODA, for OECS and Haiti ( OECD DAC CRS, accessed May 2014 )

Better analysis of existing national statistics and capacity building Improved statistical capacity building through the CPAs Maximizing the use of Census data Improved project cycle management and public policy analysis and management

Increased access to information 95% of those who use Google do not go beyond the first page of occurrences Once they reach a particular site, 95% of users do not click more than three times to find what they want

Increased access to information Maximise the awareness and use of CPAs Encourage research of the data Promote the use of dissemination tools – i.e. DevInfo
