Unit 2 - Critical thinking and problem solving 2.1a - The Ruin

2 Critical thinking and problem solving Lots of buildings are being created into something unexpected. Take this church in the Netherlands. From the outside it looks like this:

 Inside it looks like this: A BMX park

4 Can you guess what this old building is now used as? It is located in Scotland and has been functioning in its current use since 1818.

5 It is bar…

 Your School/College/Education establishment has just inherited this building. 6 The Ruin

 In groups of no more than 4, your school/college/educational establishment needs you to come up with a use for ‘The Ruin’.  You will then need to pitch your idea to the rest of the group.  You need to fulfil 5 criteria: 7 Your task

1)Your idea needs to be innovative. This means it needs to be different to what is currently available in Wales 8 Criterion 1

2)Your idea needs to have a specific target market. You will need to justify why your target market will be interested in visiting The Ruin 9 Criterion 2

3)Your pitch needs to be persuasive as to why your school/college/ educational institution should pick your idea 10 Criterion 3

4)Your idea needs to generate income. You will need to explain how it will do this 11 Criterion 4

5)You will need to communicate your vision for The Ruin. What will it look like? How will it run? 12 Criterion 5

Here are some tips for being innovative: Ideas follow five simple steps: 1.Generate 2.Document 3.Organize 4.Cull 5.Execute Come up with as many as possible in a timescale, write them down, categorise them, get rid of some and then select one to follow through. 13 Coming up with ideas

14 Any questions before you begin?
