Local Impact – Students and Visitors Student spending in the local area was $211.9 million in the fiscal year of 2005 In the same year, spending by UVA visitors totaled $122.1 million

Local Impact – Taxes UVA paid Charlottesville $189,694 and Albemarle County $1,149,487 in real estate taxes – These taxes were paid for properties such as the Boar’s Head Inn and research park buildings not used for academic purposes Taxable real estate owned or rented by UVA personnel in the city of Charlottesville and Albemarle County was valued at $3.3 billion in 2005 and yielded $28.3 million in property tax revenues

Local Impact – Miscellaneous Because of the multiplier effect, for every dollar attributable to UVA that is spent locally, the ultimate local spending generated is $1.45. UVA is the biggest employer in the local area – 19,487 employees The UVA Medical Center provided $11.8 million of inpatient care and $15.8 million of outpatient care

Statewide Impact UVA brings in over $600 million to Virginia from out-of-state sources Out-of-State students brought in $166 million

Statewide Impact UVA brought in $456 million in out-of-state grants and fellowship UVA faculty members received ~$300 million in research funding from outside Virginia UVA was a major player in Virginia’s receiving a “Best State for Business” award – According to Forbes
