Circulatory review!

What is the function of the circulatory system? Attacks disease causing micro organisms Carries oxygen and needed materials to the cells Carries waste products, like CO2 away from cells.

What is the function of the atria? To receive blood that comes into the heart.

What does the pacemaker of the heart do? Adjust the heart rate to respond to the bodies oxygen needs.

Which blood vessel carries blood away from the heart? The Artery!

Which side of the heart has high oxygen and low CO2? The left side!

Why does blood flow freely in arteries? Arteries are lined with smooth epithelial cells.

What causes blood pressure? The force by which the ventricles contract.

Which blood cell carries oxygen to the body cells! The red blood cell!

What do platelets do? Help in clotting the blood!

What happens to the fluid that leaks into the tissues from the blood? It enters the lymphatic system

What do lymph nodes do? They trap disease causing bacteria

What is atherosclerosis? The thickening of artery walls due to the build up of fatty materials

What can atherosclerosis lead to? A HEART ATTACK!

What can you do to keep cardiovascular health? Eat right and exercise.

Why should high fat foods be avoided? They can lead to atherosclerosis!
