Homework Outline Dilemma Identifying Stakeholders considering Alternatives analyzing and consequences Wrap up & Case sharing

Dilemma Identifying The stress management programs are provided by one fifth of the companies now, but few of their employees would like to take participate in any of them. Why the does phenomenon exist? How to solve the problem? Do organizations have an ethical responsibility to help their employees deal with the stress?

Stakeholders Considering ReasonDescriptionPotential Danger Stigma shameful and showing one’s weakness losing confidence organization culture making employees to hide their stress and considering it not a big deal being looked down privacyafraid of being knownbecoming gossip misundersta nding linking stress to personal characters and defects being seen or treated differently weak social relationship difficult to ask help from the others making his or her social situation worse

Alternatives Analyzing and consequences dealing with stigma(1/2) Solution 1 : organizing a “Support Group”  Instead of talking to the councilor alone, support group can gather the employees with the same problem that makes them feel comfortable to face the problem.

Alternatives Analyzing and consequences dealing with stigma(2/2) Solution 2: asking the employees to have a “Annual Training” with the councilor  Companies ask all the employees taking the annual training that talking about stress management or time management. This can force them learn some methods to deal with their stress.

Alternatives Analyzing and consequences deal with organization culture(1/2) Solution 1: constructing a “New Culture”  Build a company culture that the group members will take care of each others and they will willing listening to each other if he or she has some problem on work.

Alternatives Analyzing and consequences deal with organization culture(2/2) Solution 2:change “Working environment”  Make the working environment with not so much stress and energetic. The company can plant some plants in the office or paint the wall with the warm and bright color.

Alternatives Analyzing and consequences deal with privacy(1/2) Solution 1: making a “Privacy discipline”  Companies make promise to the employee that his coworkers won’t know his problem on stress and promise him that it won’t pose threat to his job now.

Alternatives Analyzing and consequences deal with privacy(2/2) Solution 2: “Outsources” the stress management program  The employee don’t have to meet the councilor in the company which could offer higher privacy protection.

Alternatives Analyzing and consequences deal with misunderstanding Solution 1: “Education”  Through education, tell the employee that stress problem is not directly relating to their personal characters and defects. It will be better that there is a big one such a manager from a department to share his or her experiences in dealing with the stress.

Alternatives Analyzing and consequences deal with weak social relationship Solution 1: “Form clubs” in the company  People with same interest are easy to get along each other and develop the relationship. Take the badminton club for example. They can exercise together and release their stress by doing sport.
